Atlanta Police Arrest Lism Payne
Lism Payne, lead singer of the R&B group Jagged Edge, was arrested in Atlanta on Friday, July 28, 2023, for allegedly driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of marijuana.
According to police reports, officers pulled over Payne after observing him swerving his vehicle on Interstate 85 near Lenox Road.
During the traffic stop, officers reportedly detected the odor of marijuana coming from Payne's vehicle and conducted a search, leading to the discovery of a small amount of the substance.
Payne Charged with DUI and Drug Possession
Payne was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.
He was released from jail on Saturday, July 29, after posting bond.
In a statement to TMZ, Payne's attorney, Drew Findling, said that his client "adamantly denies any wrongdoing" and that they "look forward to clearing his name in court."
Jagged Edge Performs at ESSENCE Fest
The arrest comes just days after Jagged Edge performed at the 2023 ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans.
The group is scheduled to continue their tour with upcoming dates in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Detroit.
It remains to be seen whether Payne's arrest will affect the band's touring schedule or any future performances.
