Fuat Keyman: An In-Depth Profile
Early Life and Education
Fuat Keyman was born on January 18, 1962, in Ankara, Turkey. He completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara before moving to Istanbul to attend university. In Istanbul, Keyman studied political science and international relations at Bogazici University, one of Turkey's most prestigious universities.
Career in Journalism
Keyman began his journalism career as a reporter for the Turkish daily newspaper Milliyet in 1986. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the newspaper's foreign news editor in 1989. In 1992, Keyman moved to the United States to work as a correspondent for the Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency. He covered major events such as the first Gulf War and the Bosnian War from the United States.
Return to Turkey and Political Commentary
In 1995, Keyman returned to Turkey and joined the daily newspaper Cumhuriyet as its editor-in-chief. Under Keyman's leadership, Cumhuriyet became known for its critical coverage of the Turkish government and its support for human rights and democracy. Keyman also began writing a weekly column for Cumhuriyet, in which he analyzed current events and provided political commentary.
International Recognition and Awards
Keyman's work has been recognized both in Turkey and internationally. He has received numerous awards for his journalism, including the prestigious Golden Pen of Freedom Award from the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers in 2003.
